Tim Keeler and Lyn Mathews from the Rotary Club of Logan invited me to speak to their club in Logan. I met Tim Keeler over a year ago at the Rotary International Peace Forum at Mt Gravatt and I met Lyn at the Rotary International Convention in Sydney in June.
At the meeting I got to meet Dr Jim Chalmers, the Federal Member for Rankin and Mr Bert van Manen, the Federal Member for Forde. It was an honour to meet them both. Mr van Manen used to play soccer and he was a goal keeper. He had some good stories to tell.
Jock and I loved our fish and chips for dinner and the Sergeant at Arms (who collects all the fines) was really funny. He had lots of soccer facts too. Did you know the first game of soccer was played in China?
Anyway, the best part was that the club donated $1000 towards soccer balls for the kids in Bangladesh. My aim is to raise $5000 for Bangladesh and then the incoming governor for a district in Bangladesh, will match my $5000 and together we’ll have $10,000 for soccer balls for Bangladeshi schools.
Thank you Rotary Club of Logan!!
